The wonder of a frame rack...
Here's a happy story about an early '66 912 that's being saved. I purchased this complete and running 912 last summer, it was a bargain price because of some existing collision damage:
![]() A local 912 that happened to be the same color was being parted out so I bought the hood and right front fender off of it and turned the car and parts over to my local collision rebuild professional (a.k.a. bodyman) to have him put it on his state-of-the-art frame rack and correctly "gap" the fenders to the doors and the hood. Check out what I towed home today: ![]() It took nearly a month to slip the job in between full-price insurance claims to get a cheaper hourly rate from the shop, something they called "filler work" and kind of like flying stand-by. I told the bodyman to stop at the point where I could take over the fitting and cosmetic work -OR- not to exceed $500. His total time was 6.5 hours at $53/hr or $345 total labor. I still have some minor fender fitting and clean-up work but now have a nice straight and squared-up cowl and suspension pan to graft replacement panels into. Jut for grins, I test fitted the headlights, turnsignals and horn grills to get an idea of how it was all aligned: ![]() Looks like the start of a perfect winter project to me! Darryl D.
