Question Front Suspension

Hi,

I hope someone can help me. I`m currently restoring a 67 912, so far engine, clutch, transmission and electric system are all rebuild and working fine, I also changed all four shocks and all suspension bushings and here is where the problem lies. When we first finish the suspension, there were some noises and rattles so everything was re-tighten and the car was taken to a four wheel laser alignment shop. How ever the front of the car feels somehow loose in the front when driving straight at 70 mph and when taking curves at around 60 mph, there is like a lack of weight in the front. Could this be the torsion bars that I didn't change?.

Thanks in advance for your help.

What are the alignment setting numbers? Too little toe in the front can make the car feel loose when driving at speed. what did you do the the susp? Did you add bigger rear T bars or change the sway bars?

Can you get them from the shop that did the work? They are key to understanding the issues at hand. You mentioned laser alinement, this would mean the rack is likely have the ability to print out the before and after settings. Take the car back and tell them what the problems are. A good shop will put the car back on the rack and also write down or print out the alignment you got. They should at least have the spec they went by for your car.

If alignment is not the issue, it may be your tie rods. Did you replace those bushings as well? You can upgrade to the turbo tie rods if you like. Did you replace the rear banana arm bushings, and spring plate bushings? Is your steering rack up to par? Have you lowered the car? If so you may need to install a bumpsteer kit.

I agree with Green 912, but I just thought I would raise a few more questions to help you solve your situation.
