Where else to find 912's?
I've been looking at 912's and 912 E's lately and I'm curious if there are some more places I might be missing. I've been to the 912 registry and BBS, and I'm on thesamba. Are there any other spots to find 912's for sale?
And are the prices I see on thesamba normal or kind of high? They seem high to me, but this is a new market. Thanks

There is EBay and Crags list.
They will now range from $3500 for a parts car to $45K depending on the model and condition. A soft window Targas in original condition and matching numbers for the $45K. The early 911 folks looking for parts have been picking them up and have, beside the Europeans, helped drive the prices up. They are not as dear as the 356 or even the early 911's. However, they are also not too far behind. There are still a lot of them out there. but they are fast disappearing. Some times you can find one that someone has had sitting in the garage for a while and do not know the market. They will go for a song. However, EBay is ruining that market. If it is a Porsche they think that it is worth a arm and a leg. |

Yeah Ebay sucks.
I remember looking at 912's in the past and they weren't that high. Now it seems like that everyone I see will have rust issues and still want $10K+. O well I'll just keep looking.

Depending upon how aggressive you want to be, there are a number of other options out there. Try posting a wanted ad on places like the 356Registry and regional 356 websites. Check out the Porsche Club of America regional websites.
Am finding that once people get one older Porsche they become a magnet for others so networking on these other sites is always good. If someone has one in the garage then they usually have a price that they would agree to have it out of their garage. And generally on these sites, someone always knows somebody who might know someone else who wants to sell. Unfortunately its not a quick short term process. I've been looking for over a year now, but coming closer every day. Also if you're looking at restoring an older one, definitely go the 356Registry way as lots of 912 parts do become available through there. jb |
