I'd suggest getting a full repair manual (Ebay or online) - for early 911/912. This will help you with all of the systems on the car.
Then, grab a VW engine repair manual. The motor looks like a 1600 single port with an aftermarket Weber DFEV carb. Actually, this is not a bad option if you're running the car in Mexico, since even the most remote areas seem to have at least one VW mechanic and a parts source. Does the car currently run/drive? You'll have to decide how far you want to go with the restoration. I'd suggest getting the car mechanically sorted out, then enjoy it as a rolling restoration project. Good luck, Bill. |

thank you bill, the car is running and actually running pretty well, obviously not very powerful but pretty steady, i took it with a mechanic in Mexico and they did a tune up... i'm thinking on bringing the car to San Francisco since I live here... the body is in pretty good shape, as well as the interior in the pics is just dirty... I tried to find the glass headlamp lens and i can't find it as well as the arm rest, I don't know if this car was already restored but other 68' 912 interiors look a bit different to me.
anyways, thanks for your help ![]() antonio |

From what I can see, the dash top has been redone and probably the door panels. On the pre-68 cars, the dash can be reupholstered by most shops, and the door panels are easy. Other parts you'll need are the front/rear bumper trim pieces and the rocker mouldings. The headlight lens can be a US, non-fluted VW part (cheap) and you can grab a later 911 steering wheel for not too much money. The car looks to have 16x6/16x7 wheels f&rear, but that's fine. If you plan to restore to absolute original, it's probably not worth it in terms of $$. But, you do have all of the makings for a nice "R" inspired car, or just a really nice modified early car. As for the motor, if you don't have the 912 engine, you can always build a really nice Type 1 VW with dual carbs, mild cam, etc., which will give you a nice street driver. |

Should've been a little more specific - later case (accepts rear mount) with DP heads & alternator.
