battery and engine

I have a 1969 Porsche 912 that I have some questions for you guys.First the number on the engine doesnt match with any information I have. The engine number is *4094065*. The stars that I have before and after the number is just like it is on the engine. Does anybody have any information on this. Second the car has two batteries, one on each side up front, what size are they and what amp and volts are they. Thanks

The batteries are hooked up in series and are 6 votes a piece. They did this to balance the car's weight.

The number will be on the third piece under where you pour in the oil It would have the stars and under the number it would say made in Germany.

The number you show is not a 912 engine number. It could have been a industrial engine refitted for the 912. It also could of been a replacement engine. (however, those came with out serial numbers) Someone could have just stamped numbers on the replacement third piece. To find out for sure; you will need the Kardex from Porsche America. It will have the original number. It will start 128 or 129.

If you punch in the enginenumber in any of the available serial no references online - you get that this is a 616-40, 1969 912 engine. It should have been originally fitted in a car - either Porsche or Karmann built - with serial ranging from:

Porsche/ Targa 129010001 - 129010801
Karmann/ Coupe 129020001 - 129023450
Porsche/ Coupe 129000001 - 129000428

Same year as my car actually! :-) though mine is fitted with a 616-39. Does your carsserial match up to any of this? Most twelves had a 12v battery from the start. But to know for sure you really need to look at them or measure with a voltmeter? 6v's are in general quite smaller than 12v.

The 4094065 is a 912 engine for 69. Sorry my head was somewhere else when I first read the post. The breakdown as followed:

4- 4 cylinder engine
0- regular version
9- 69
4065- sequential numbering.
