Scarey question

Does any one know what a main bearing sounds like when it goes? I've got a loud high pitched screach that is scarey sounding. Could it be a bearing? It increases with rpms and goes away when there is an accelerating load on the engine. Any ideas????

MikeP maybe the generater fan is hitting the dog house. Or the generater bearings. I had the fan hitting the dog hse once, very scarey sound. Brett

Hi brett, I thought that might be the problem and removed the fan belt and it didn't change a thing.

Might be something with the cluch and tranny, but a main bearing sounds more logical, Yikes!

First, I have never heard/had a bad mains in a air cooled. I would think mains would have a loud lower sound than a 'loud high pitched screach '. Also, louder under ' accelerating load', not go away. Think I will go with Efrain Throw out bearing Good Luck Brett
