Scarey question
Does any one know what a main bearing sounds like when it goes? I've got a loud high pitched screach that is scarey sounding. Could it be a bearing? It increases with rpms and goes away when there is an accelerating load on the engine. Any ideas????

maybe the generater fan is hitting the dog house. Or the generater bearings. I had the fan hitting the dog hse once, very scarey sound. Brett |

Hi brett,
I thought that might be the problem and removed the fan belt and it didn't change a thing. |

Might be something with the cluch and tranny, but a main bearing sounds more logical, Yikes!

First, I have never heard/had a bad mains in a air cooled. I would think mains would have a loud lower sound than a 'loud high pitched screach '. Also, louder under ' accelerating load', not go away.
Think I will go with Efrain Throw out bearing Good Luck Brett |
