'67 torque settings...
hi,
i am still looking for a shop manual for my new '67 912. but in the meantime i would like to change the fluids (if there is still any in there!). i have not much previous experience at this stuff so i am paranoid about stripping threads or important bits falling off the car. ergo, can anyone supply the following info? i got a few manuals, but these kind of details appear to be 'assumed'... ![]() 901 tranny - drain plug + fill plug torques. should i use a new gasket for either when servicing? (if there are any) valves - is there a torque setting for the lock nuts? they took 2 hands to undo, but i only tightened them to about 10+ ftlbs oil - drain plug torque. new gasket? (present?) oil screen panel screw torque? i gather i replace gasket here each time - ? the oil drain plug appears to be a filed, mangled, chiselled-at square-ish headed piece of sculpture - i'm assuming this is a non-porsche option... many thanks in advance, tim

For all of those, tighten them until they are snug, and you shouldn't have a problem. But, here are the factory torque settings
Oil Drain plug - 18 ft. lbs And the rest, I wish I had the spec book. The reason why they were probably assumed is because they don't know them! So no worries and.... keep the 912 faith |

Here are some I have from the Maestro's "little spec book"
12mm ATF nuts on 3rd piece of case - 15 ft/lbs Case perimeter bolts - 15-18 ft/lbs Connecting rod nuts - 32.6 ft/lbs Acorn nuts on case - 29 ft/lbs Cylinder head nuts - 22 ft/lbs Rocker arm housing - 29-36ft/lbs Rocker arm to shaft nuts 15-18ft/lbs (might strip nut near 18) flywheel nut - 324-360 ft/lbs generator to fan nut - 72 ft/lbs cam gear bolts - 18ft/lbs most 8mm (12, 13, 14mm) - 15-18ft/lbs. This has been a pretty good little book to have handy I highly recommend purchasing it! I hope this helps........ craign |
