My 66 912 started and ran fine, now it just won't start at all. Iv'e got all the necessary ingredients: fuel, spark and compression. Iv'e got spark from the coil and to the plugs. I did not do a thing to it, it just stopped starting. This has really got me stumped. Help.
The windshields are in. Thanks for everyones replies. I would not do it again though, it was not easy. The trim is not in and I don't know how to get it in now. We also cracked the front. So, in the long folks, hire a pro. It would have been worth the money. Greg Sucher Irish Green 66 |

Are you positive you have fuel to the carbs? A common problem is leaks in the braided hoses, which causes the fuel pump to suck air. Check and see if you have fuel to the carbs, then check to see if the distributor is clamped down tight, it could have moved and thrown the timing off. Also, do you have a good spark, check the wires and connections, especially the one from the coil to the distributor. If none of this works, we'll try something else. Also, when starting, pump, pump, pump, and pump the gas some more. Good luck!

To bad about the windshields. I think you have to put the trim in BEFORE you reinstall the window. Maybe the porsche gods where just upset for breaking the windshield. The car will start today. ![]() GoodLuck Brett |

Hi Greg,
I too had this problem a little while ago, I just couldn't get it to start. You have to be logical, esp. if it will not run at all. If there is a spark and the timing/points is correct, if the right amount of fuel is getting through and there is also compression then it will start. A few things to check include Remove one of the fuel lines, get a friend to turn the engine over.... is there fuel coming out. Looking down the carb, open the throttle are the accelerator pumps, pumping fuel, all of them. Remove a HT lead and get a friend to turn the engine over, earth the end out and check to see if it is sparking. Check the points and recheck the timing, are all the contacts clean, check the resistance across the HT leads, voltage from the coil, are the plugs clean. Have you done anything since the engine last run? If all this is ok as mine was, is the battery good? After trying to start mine for some time, then recharging the battery then trying to start again, I guess my battery just didn't have enough umph to get it started. My friend arrived with a battery, which could power a space ship, and after hooking it up it started first time. I may have solved the problem by checking one of the other things I mentioned, but I didn't care, I was glad to get it running again. I hope you get it working soon Alan.UK

How long has the car been sitting?
Has UK swapped to unleaded fuel yet? I know when we lost leaded gas (petrol) we had many problems. Now I find if cars sit for a few weeks I have to renew fuel (or at least top it up with fresh stuff). Also the plugs can foul up easily, especially if I start it and run for a short time - not getting hot- like to move it out of the garage- later I have to clean the plugs to move it back in. Did you start then run it a short time? Just a thought.
