Accelerator Linkage
From your description, you are talking about the 'throttle link' connection between the rod from the accel bellcrank mounted on the transmission and the metal rod coming back from the accel pedal: there is supposed to be a rubber cylinder adhered to the two 'washers' providing vibration isolation to the accel pedal.
A newer version, p/n 911-423-081-02-M260, is available from our host. The design incorporates a metal enclosure such that when the rubber connection fails, some throttle is still available to get you home. Hope this helps... |

accelerator and clutch linkage updates
Ditto to Peter's comment, to keep from being stranded everyone needs the updated version (which has been out for over 20 years) of the accelerator rod link that incorporates the metal cylinder .
Similarly, make sure the connector from the clutch cable to the tranny fork connection is not plastic; the original design has long since been superceded by a metal connector.
