HI everyone,my name is Doug. I live in Canada. I have recently purchased a 69/912 in close to original shape. I enjoy working on old cars and once restored a 71 Karman Ghia Convert so I'm quite cumfortable with this car. It is a daily driver for my girlfriend and I get it on the weekends to play with. Along with a few lighting problems the car came with a slipping clutch so I paid my local porsche specalist to drop a Van clutch into it and repack the throughout bearing. Presure plate was fine so repairs didn't brake the bank. Ran well, pulled strong to 5 thou, but seemed weak off the line. Sooo I reset the points and adjusted the timing to start and then got brave and removed those big old air cleaners. The car came with the Orange Porsche 912 repair manual. From the discription starting on page 161 under the heading "Adjusting Idle Speed" I decided to take a stab at it. I have a ("Unisyn") Tool that I borrowed from someone. I had forgotten what setting dual carbs can be like, so needless to say I have now screwed them up! The car is now poping at Idle and bogging down untill about 2500 rmp, then pulls fine. I have followed the manual upto section 13. and cant find the adjusting screw described in 13-b so I can set the front of both carbs with the Synchronizer. If Anyone out there understands what I'm taking about and can show me a picture (I'm a visual learner!) of this adjustment screw It would be greatly appreaciated!
Thank You in advance, Doug 69912 ![]()

Hi Doug,
This adjustment screw can't be seen from the back of the engine. The screw is located between the two carb barrels at the bottom portion of the carbs and just above the dual intake manifold. It is about 1 inch below the line of the throttle shaft. The screw is perpendicular to the length of the car. It is small and can be seen if you use a small mirror and flashlight to view it from the side. It should be there unless your 69 has a set of solid shaft Solexes. Jones Low 69-912 |
