Overcharging question?

going down the h-way (69 912) today with my gps pluged into the cigar lighter I was showing a 17.44 volt charge on the system, Is there a way to adjust this down to around 14 vdc or is it time for a new regulator? it drops to around 12.5 at idle

Thanks for the help

Craig

Sounds like a new regulator might help but that voltage seems way high. I'd check again with a different meter. If you've got 17v you could blow your headlights!
