Early Door panel source
I've been doing a slow restoration on my '67 912 Targa. Rust abatement, new carpet, new front pan, etc. She's right now.
One last thing to be done: door panels. After years of dampness, the original backing material was a bit less than desirable. There was also a ring etched into the vinyl where the window crank had hit it. I'd planned to recover the panel and repair the vinyl as best as I could, then I checked out Parts Obsolete. $280 or so for two correct door panels. Hmmm. That's a bit less than I would have spent restoring them. They arrived on Saturday. All I can say is "wow". Perfect. Sure, I have to cut the holes for the window crank and arm rest, but everything else is perfect. I plan to use my old panels as templates. The texture matches my old panels, and the pockets are correct as well. If you have a '66 to '68 912, you might want to check 'em out. |

Loco,
I have had similar dealings with parts obsolete. I needed that "firewall" thing that mounts in the rear of my 69 luggage compartment (cheap cardboard firewall). At first I was told they did not have any that were in any kind of shape. 1 week later I get an e-mail from Rod that they had found a perfect one. I am waiting for delivery now but he said it was "perfect". Of course I spent some other money and found them to be a few $$ cheaper than others for the same excellent quality stuff. www.partsobsolete.com Craig |

I truly like Parts Obsolete, HCP Research (Harry Pellow) and other such companies that help keep our 912's and 356's rolling down the road.
The fact that businesses like that exist only confirm the fact that Porsches are special and worth keeping. |

I agree, Harry Pellow has single handedly done more for documenting 356/912 repairs than anyone in the world I beleive. His willingness to dispense advise and help is wonderful.
His "emergency breakdown" book should be in every 912 glove box. However I do find his prices to be a bit on the high side for parts and work. But I guess that is what all those years of experience can command! Craig |

Harry did my 912 engine. Yes, it was expensive, but it's freaking fantastic. The attention to detail is there, he knows the ropes, and I wouldn't even consider letting anyone else do it.
You get what you pay for in the end. I'm very happy Harry Pellow aka The Maestro hand built my engine. |
