Question Shock Replacement Time??

How do I determine if it is time to replace the shocks on my 69. I have Bogie's on the front and Koni's on the rear.

I push down on all corners of the car and cannot get any corner it to bounce other than return to neutral position. When I drive the car there is no bouncing either.

I recall from past cars that bad shocks will let the fender bounce up & down 2 - 3 times or more.

Am I missing something?? The PO gave me a new set of all 4 shocks, said he had no time to install them. What did he know that I don't?

Thanks for your help,

Ron D

Not only will you get more bounce, but you may notice oil leaking from the shock as well as a very irritating squeeking sound when you pass over uneven surfaces. I would want the same shocks on all 4 corners if it were mine.

Thanks for the info, I forgot to mention that none of my shocks leak or squeek and since I can't get the car to bounce the shocks may still be good.

How does it handle? Does it wallow in the corners? When you go over a speed bump does it continue to oscillate for one or two cycles more than it should? Sometimes the rubber suspension bushings will be stiff and the push the fender test won’t work as the bushings dampen movement rather than the strut.

Green:
I just replaced the front suspension bushings but before that I was not able to get the shocks to bounce either. She does not wallow in sharp turns and I never go over speed bumps fast so I can't answer that.

I think I will have to wait for an answer when I take the car in for 4 wheel alignment after I do the rear suspension bushings.

Thanks for all your help.
