... how can i increase the performance of my standard 912 engine? Does increasing the bore affect it that much? I have toyed with the idea of putting a 911 engine in, is this feasible, i would prefer to keep the original 912 engine and increase the power of that.

For the cost of a 911 engine and all the goodies that need to go on the car to make it work,you would be far better off with a T4 conversion.You don't have to hack a hole in your side wall for the oil tank and can change back to the 912 engine in an afternoon.Heck ,with the right T4 you just might be able to out run a 911

Pick up Duane Spencer's new book, The Complete 912 Guide. He goes into ways to make as much as 160 horsepower in your 912! Of course, reliability is an issue, but he says 125-130 is very attainable with reliability. It will require a total rebuild, but that is cheaper than a six cylinder conversion.
The other alternative is the Type 4 motor. Cost would be less than the new 912 motor and you could get slightly more horsepower with it. Good luck!

I went with then 911 option, and fitted a 2ltr from a T model. To be honest the car drove much better than it's 912 brother. I found the engine transfer relatively easy, but then again I have done this kind of thing before. The 911 engine is an option open to you, but don't forget you will need all of the 911 ancillaries, from the 6 cylinder tach to all the oil lines and tach. This has been done many times and is not a new idea. But looking back I actually quite liked the way my 912 with it's 1720cc motor drove. It was balanced and responsive, even with it's original solexs, which would only stay fully tuned for approx 1 day. I sold this car and then went back to 912 power, this time of the LWB 69 variety. Since then I have moved on to a 911 E and also what I now have a 2.2 911S. I guess I have done what your about to do !! and I would honestly say that sticking with the original motor is the best way forward even though this is not the cheapest and not the quickest option. If you really want a 911 then see if you can get one. But this by no means suggests that you or any other owner can not adapt and alter their car in the quest for more power and speed. Although many know that I am a huge Type IV advocate, be aware that for the price of a "nice" pair of properly prepared Type IV heads you could probably pick up a used 2.0-2.2 complete six.
