1965-67 Rear deck script

All,
Found an old thread on another 912 forum website and basically it was stating that there were some hiccups, production issues that allowed maybe early manufactured 67 owners to have the one word Porsche or perhaps P-O-R-S-C-H-E- and 912 script on the rear engine lid.

I was informed by the other forum member that..." You can find out if it is the right deck lid by looking for the last 3 numbers of your vin that is stamp underneath the deck lid
On the grill support bar".....I am assuming that he was talking about the original deck lid had some sort of digits stamped some place on the inside (location unknown) of the rear deck lid perhaps near the middle bar of the lid.

I never heard of this and was wondering if anyone has ever found or knows of such location maybe perhaps a photo that can verify this.

Gordon

Yes.

My car had a multitude of 3 digit stamped digits (that corresponded with my VIN) on many of the body panels. Doors, dash, tub, etc. that I found when I restored it.

Edit - I tried to attach a photo but the system is not accepting it.

FWIW my 1967 has separate PORSCHE letters on the lid.

I would say it is highly unlikely to have either the one-piece Porsche or the slant script on a '67.

I agree with John. Since my 66 was one of the last to leave the factory for the 66 model year in June of 66.
