1975 Oil temp wire routing

I am attempting to but back together may 75 914. It was a 1.8 but I purchased a 2.0 engine, rebuilt it, and am now (several years later) trying to put it back together. I have mounted the oil temp sending unit on the bottom of the engine, but I don't see where or how to route the wire. it has a metal L bracket on the wire and a connector at the end. Where does it go?

The wire comes forward out of the "taco plate" on the bottom of the engine, then across the front of the engine, to the area of the oil cooler. The bracket crimped onto the wire goes onto one of the oil cooler bracket's mounting bolts. (Were there two brackets? If so, I forget where the other one goes.) The wire then goes up through a hole in the engine tin or the engine shelf that has a grommet in it, and plugs into a rectangular box connector in the area under the battery.

The wires should be green with a black stripe.

The wire runs up through the main wiring harness in the center tunnel to the area where the center console would be. There should be a multiple connector there for the center console wiring. The console harness plugs in there; if you instead are mounting a dash-mounted gauge then run another wire from that area along the main wiring harness into the footwell and then up to the dashboard.

The wire is first crimped to the tab on the taco plate cover. It goes up to the first mounting point on a tab that goes onto the outer stud on the oil filter mount. From there it goes to a tab mounted to the oil cooler. It connected to the green wire in the engine bay on the passenger side. It is a single wire coming off the main harness with a square clear connector cover. The internal wire routing may be different if you have a combo gauge in the dash with the temp gauge. Also what year is the car? I think 72 was the only year that did not have the oil temp wire already wired into the harness.

Hi All,
I have a '76 912E that arrived with the engine out
It is a carb-converted 2.0. I'm having the same trouble knowing where the oil temp wire attaches after it comes up through the engine tin.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks and Merry Christmas!
Peter

I assume it is similar, coming out near the oil cooler side of the engine. In the 912E's case, it would be the left-rear. Look under the engine tin on that side.

In the car, there is most likely a single box connector with a green/black (green with black stripe) wire that eventually winds up at the oil temp gauge. I am not sure, though, as I am not all that familiar with the 912E.
