grass hopper

so does anyone have a pic of a grass hopper paint scheme? I've heard of them quite a bit, but I've never seen a pic of one. If anyone could post one I'd appreciate it.

Just the pic on Bowlsby's site which is a photoshop effort. There is a rare poster/ad that has all three colors cars sitting. Its kind of the Holy Grail these days as it is been lost. I have seen a Grasshopper years ago and they are "different". If I had a white car I think I might paint it that or the Creamsickle scheme as that is nice too. The green I remember is like the Carrera RS decal green, but who knows.
I am stuck with Nepal Orange for now.

There is strong sentiment that the 914 LE Grasshopper car color is Zambezi Green from the people who have seen one. We need to find a real car or factory documentation to confirm it though.

Describing it as the Holy Grail is putting it mildly. There were likely less than 100 ever built, all of which were imported to the USA...the only factory 914 cars more rare would be the 916, 914/6GT and the two flat eight cars.

So finding an authentic one is near impossible. See my 914 Canam website for all the info available.

Hey, It's not Zambezi, it's the 911RS green, like lime skin.

Zambesi green does look like a lime skin.

http://members.rennlist.com/chuxter/914Colors.htm

And there's another page with photos of the cars of the various colors, but I don't remember the URL offhand.

heh... yeah, that is the color of lime skin, but I only eat the ones that are a little lighter colored..

It's RS green, like mixing Ravenna, and Zambezi.. I don't know the name of the color.

"Hey, It's not Zambezi, it's the 911RS green, like lime skin."

Huh 'lime skin' whats that?

Thanks for chiming in M...I know you mentioned that the LE Grasshopper color was the RS Green color to me recently. I have not researched it further, but I am curious about it. Is there a possibility that the RS green color is the same as the 914 Zambezi Green (or Forest Green as it was renamed in 1975), just by a different name? You mentioned that you either owned or had seen a 914 LE Grasshopper in the past, so I put great credence on your knowledge. It would be questionable to me that the Karmann factory would paint a 914 in a 911 color, which is why I think that the RS green color spec is questionable. Also Atlanta George assures me beyond any doubt in his mind that the Factory stripes he has in stock are most convincingly Zambezi. But I am open to any other evidence you may have...

Does the RS Green color have any other name or paint code that you are aware of to aid in researching it?

And there you have it, that is the color.

It's the same as the White/Green RS, exactly.

You know Miles...I think you may have something there...

1. Porsche looked to the RS Carrera in their side stripe design for the 914 LE cars.

2. The 914 LE Creamsicle is Ivory and Phoenix Red just like one of the other 73 911 RS paint schemes. The 914 LE site has had a picture of the white/green RS 911 since the first day it went up as a possible green color.

The only think mystifying to me then, is...did the RS 911 cars also come in Black with yellow trim like the 914 LE cars did? I can almost see that color combination in my minds eye...

I painted mine, after looking at the RS, I wondered why.. then I remembered..

It was the 80's, I was going to shave the 'suicide' doors, and paint it hot pink, at least I'm off the drugs.

The RS green color is the color I remember being on the LE, NOT Zambezi Green. It would make the most sense because why in the world would Porsche even make the green or creamsicle colors?

Anybody have a copy of the Dealer Identify book that lists all the colors, models the 914 years. My friend can't find his copy. There should be a pic of the 3 LE's in that book.

We are on a roll...but Geoff I am confused by your statement...

"The RS green color is the color I remember being on the LE, Zambezi Green. It would make the most sense because why in the world would Porsche even make the green or creamsicle colors?"

So is RS Green the color you remember seeing or Zambezi? Did you mean...'NOT' Zambezi?

And Miles...Any chance that you have a picture of your car when it was still RS green?

I have a copy of the "paint chip" brochure from 74. No specific LE colors listed. Actually, as I recall, the brochure is missing one color that really was available in 74.
