Another ebay garage queen

Is this also too much for a 914? I hate to be redundant, but inquiring minds want to know.

I wish those pics were a bit closer up. At 56k miles that one has a much better chance than the other green one of getting the opening bid, provided the interior and drivetrain is in good shape. Still very high though. Isn't Viper Green a rare color? '76 only I think.

You guys are a crack-up...I love this board.

Viper Green Metallic is a 1976 only color and the seller is quite right...very few 914s were done in this color. This may be a Concours car outta the box...no restoration needed, although Chico is a hot climate.

With original paint and 56K miles...the 10.5K is a bargain. This car should go higher if the right buyer is watching it, who should be buying their plane tickets about now to talk the seller to taking it off ebay and negotiating a direct sale.

Because its a late car, the 76 cars are especially rare, what only ~2000 made and only imported to the USA?. Because its a 76 in California-that means the car should be well cared for with its original FI (simply to pass smog if for no other reason) unlike the earlier smog exempt cars that are tempting to ahem...modify....

The point is that any 914, in the best of condition is better than the holy grail 73-74 2.0 that has been thrashed...

It will be fun to watch this one.

Ah...Bowlsby explain well.
A few things: Are those plaid seat cushons orig.? Doesnt have orig steering wheel, has a CD player, cannot see antenna, not sure about the passenger side mirror(stock option?) To me, these are fine aditions, with the exception of the seat cushons!

I wish the pictures of this car were larger. Man I love these cars! Looking at them makes me feel the same as when I got to buy a new toy car as a kid.

The seats are original, the color is cool, 5-6 cars have a range of problems the others don't..

Is it worth 10k+ a lil?

Oh yeah.

I have only been watching prices on these cars for a year now, but it seems to me that they have gone down in price. This may be because of the economy or the season. I'll wait till the weather gets warm and sunny again to see if that helps boost the prices. What was selling for $4K in July/Aug is now around $2.5K

$10K for a good 56,000 mile car....yep, I'd pay it.....I have seen Mustang's go for a lot more than that.

The November 2002 issue of Excellence reportedly lists 1973 914 2.0 prices as:

poor $4730
good $5378
ex. $7200

I think the 75s and 76s sell for more.

If it is as advertised it is a $10k car. Think in terms of rare, collectible; not rebuilt, modified, street racer, autocrosser. As Bowlsby said, '76's are few in number, all were 2.0 with console. Most had 2.0 alloys, but not all. Plaid seat inserts were common in '76. I remember red/black and gray/black and there may have been yellow/black along with the green/black.

Jeff, I disagree with you on this. I think that with the obvious aftermarket parts on it (RHS mirror, stereo, steering wheel, etc.) and with zero concours history that I can tell, it is not necessarily one of the $10K+ cars we talked about earlier.

It could be, but you cannot tell from the ad.

Too bad about the mirror. The stereo is relatively easy to replace with a period-correct one, and the steering wheel should be a bolt-on deal, but putting the mirror setup back to original means repainting the door.

Gee, I guess my 1976 2.0 without center console doesn't exist then.

My 1976:
2.0 w/ original style FI (replace computer after a failure)
No Console
No Fog/Driving Lights
No "Bumper Tits"
Stamped Steel Wheels

"Tits" were California only in '76. They had their own bumper regs. back then.

I view that as potentially a very desireable car. Especially with that exterior color and plaid interior.

Is it a $10K car? Could be. If I were in the market for another one right now, I would definitely give this one a closer look. But, $10K would be about the top price.

If the car is as nice as the ad suggests, it is totally worth the money. If Viper Green was your favorite color this would be the car to get. I don't understand the objection to the passenger side mirror. Didn't dealers install those just like they installed A/C units and racks. In a concours do you get knocked down for original dealer installed options?

That's my understanding too, Anthony. That RHS mirror was a dealer installed option. They used the same mirror as on the left, but flipped the mirror over. I read somewhere (maybe in a Pelican article) that there are blind nuts already installed in the passenger side door that you just have to drill through to install the stock mirror.

The nuts are there. Pretty easy install. I used a driver's side mirror but I believe there is a true pass. side mirror with it's own part number.
