Question NLA 914 parts

I am considering a 914 and want to hold out for for the 2.0 engine. What are the parts that are not available? And if missing the fuel injections, is converting to carburetors is the answer? Thanks!

Lots of different answers to the question, frankly. Microsquirt is one option; dual carbs are another. Restoring the original EFI is a third. (A single-carb swap is not a good option.)

What are you comfortable tinkering with?

So.. when you say you want to hold out for the 2.0 engine, does it mean a genuine 2.0 car or one that has had an engine swap?

A 75/76 2.0 was rated at 86hp... a 70 1.7 was rated at 80hp and was 200lb lighter.. so in this case, a 2.0 might not garner much if any performance upgrade.

Or, are you looking for a specific year 2.0 car? say a '73?

And are you in California? Cause if I understand correctly, a carb swap would only be legal in a 75 or older year car..

When looking at a 45-50 year old car, I would first consider which is the stuff you cant/wont do. IE, do you want a full project? A runner? a daily driver? track car? restoration queen? Do you like doing rust/bodywork repair? are you mechanically inclined? are you a checkbook expert?

They are fun cars and there is a heirarchy in how they are priced these days and always look for the rust. To me, bodywork is more important than mechanical. The more original bodywork the better.. the less rust, even better! I can get my hands dirty. I can't weld and do metalwork.

Everything is available if you know who to ask or where to look.

Put the original FI back on...its a no brainer.

+1. I have both a carb'd 2L race car and a street 2L with the stock D-Jet. I much prefer the driveability of the street car (though its ability to handle performance mods is limited).

For a lightly-modified street car the D-Jet is truly a no-brainer and easily supported.
