Hi All,
I need some advice please ,i have a 1974 914 with 2.0 engine, im planning to install a webber 44 carburetor on it but some of my mechanic friends advice me stay with the FI system they said its easy to maintain once it set properly its worry free already,WHILE converting it to dual carb set up will make the car temperamental need to tune up every now and then ,it just only the looks, well they said its add HP. thank you, i appreciate all advices, btw got the set of carb already from redline ![]() |

Are you making any significant changes to the engine (cams, overbore, etc)? If not, I strongly encourage you to stay with the stock D-Jet. All the parts you need to bring it up to snuff are available (or can be reman'd) and the driveability is soooooo much better. Once I got mine running right I love it.
It does not respond well to significant mods, but it's teh best answer for a stock-ish engine. <--- has both a 2L D-Jet street car and a Dellorto carb'd racer... |

NEVER convert to carbs unless you have a racing car ESPECIALLY 44s which is WAY over carburation.

Some common failure points to consider:
- Throttle Position Switch, TPS. Easy to replace and tune, new aftermarket ones are available. - Manifold Pressure Sensor, MPS. Common for the diaphragm to crack. Tangerine Racing (a sponsor here) makes replacements that you can purchase, but my reocmmendation is to send it to Chris and have him rebuild it for you. He'll also mod it so it can be tuned. - Points/condensor, and/or D-Jet points in the distributor. You can either replace the points/condensor with a Petronix electronic plate, or the better route is to replace the whole thing with a 1-2-3 distributor. - Check injector seals, replace. Vac leaks. - Check/clean injectors - Wiring. We're getting long in the tooth so ensure all wires are in good shape and connections are sound. If you're already having running problems, post here, we'll be glad to assist. |

I've owned both a carbed version (with 40 Webers) and FI versions. The FI is a much better daily driving car. Smoother operation. Quieter. Easier. Carbed car was a bit more finicky, a bit noisier, but to be fair, remarkably simple and easy to run.
