What a way to start the day...

So I decide to take the 6 to work today. It's rained or threaten for a couple of days. Car started right up. It idled no problem, but I set the hand throttle on to give it a little warm up.

I take the time to load the car and remove the top. Can't drive the 914 with the targa in place. That just wouldn't be right. 2 minutes later, the car is warmed up and I pull away.

About 2 miles later, I'm at a stop light with a modern mustang cobra sitting next to me. I'm not even thinking about _anything_. But after the light changes, he decides to "Pass and out run" the little yellow 914.

He passes me and then makes a run for the highway. He definitely had floored it. I decide that I'll slide right in behind him and see what I can do to encourage him. In no time we were doing {*Edited for puposes of not encouraging breaking the law*}. It's 2 lanes coming down to one and the 914 keeps an even pace with the Cobra doing everything he can to get away.

Then we get to the freeway ramp. It's a partial cloverleaf. This is my morning ramp and he slow and moves into the inside lane, I floor the 914 and pass on the outside and continue accellerating, the centripedal force pushing me against the door (Damn - remind me to buy those sport seats from renegade). As the ramp circles toward the freeway, he is significantly behind and running at a much slower speed. I shoot forward and bring the car up the additional 10-15 mph needed to be at highway speeds. The cobra pours it on as I meld into the traffic.

I swear there was a dirty look on his face as he passed me....

What a fantastic way to start the day...

i wonder if he posted his frustrations on the mustang gt bbs. " i can't believe it guys. this morning i got smoked by this guy in a little piece of crap". reply,"dude, he prob had NOS". you got to love it. maybe he'll switch and buy the first 914 he comes across. you know, the rusty one you passed on after 30 seconds.

James,

Sounds like you were having fun.

It is amazing what these 914s can do.

For many of the same reason, this is why I have taken my 914 off the road and made it a track car. Everytime I looked down, I was doing over 80 MPH.
