I have not posted here much lately, but wanted to take this chance to say thanks to all 914 Pelicanheads. ;-)

I am only 43, but over the last few years have developed a degenerative joint disease. Unfortunately, this means that I can now no longer drive a stick shift car and am unlikely to be able to do so in the future. I have had several 914s over the years, but when I saw the handwriting on the wall with this disease last year, I wanted to "go out with a bang" with a really exceptional 914, hopefully a six. I spent many months looking for just the right car. I got lots of great advice and leads from the folks on this board. The 914-6 I eventually bought, which has exceeded all my expectations, was pointed out to me by our own Dave Darling; he found the ad on an obscure list and emailed it to me pronto. Dave, I still owe you one. ![]() I had *tons* of fun in this car and all my 914s over the years. They really are special and unique vehicles! My six is now for sale and I plan to replace it with a 993 Tiptronic. Unless things really go south, I should have the physical ability to drive a Tip trans for a few more years. Thanks again everybody for the advice and assistance. Appreciate what you have, in health and in cars--my very unsolicited advice for the day.

Your vast knowledge of 914s has been very helpful to me and so many others on the board. I'm sorry to see you sell that beautiful car, but at least you "perfected" it and left your mark on it. It sure does run and look great. Plus, a 993 isn't exactly a step down! This DOES NOT mean you are free of the 914 addiction though, nor will it keep me from asking you elementary 914-related questions. I plan to pick you up in the '75 several times this season just to keep the addiction alive... If you guys know Bob, you know he didn't ask me to say this, but if anyone is looking for a very unique and SWEET 914/6 I would drop him a line. I would buy it today if I had the means. He really wants to find it a "good home". Do a BB search and you will see just what he went through to find this thing....

I'm very sad to hear that you'll be selling the Six. I'm even more so to learn the reason why. I hope you'll keep working at fighting it, though!

Have you considered a 2001 914-6 Tiptronic? (Yeah, Porsche calls it a "Boxster S", but we know better! ) You're quite welcome on locating the car. It was just luck, that's all. A friend of a friend was selling it, and my friend told me. I had already seen that you were looking for a car, so... BTW, folks, his car is amazing. Bruce Anderson commented to me, "Oh yeah--I know that car. That is one great 914! One of the nicest ones that I've seen." It goes just as fast as it looks... Maybe even faster!! --DD

Again, my prayers are with you. Although we never met in person, I would have to say you are truely a great friend that I met in our quests to find a "perfect" 914, if there is such a thing :P. Im glad you had some fun in you 914-6, I know that was quite a decession making process you were going through to get it. Alot of people, this group not withstanding, really don't appreciate 914's for what they are. You are truely one us nuts who really cherish these cars. I let you know how I do at the various concours events this year. I will give you a call in few weeks to touch base and see how your doing with your 996 quest. Keep in touch and best regards, Tod |

Bob, I drove back from the Porsche Parade in Boise with a problem that sounds very similar to yours,he actually walked with a cane. He has a 914-6 and had heard about someplace in Canada that was able to do auotmatic trans conversions to 914s They used a paddle ala F1 to shift the car. Somewhat expensive, from what he told me.

I for one would go out and test drive a Boxster TIP, I own a Boxster with a 5 spd and also a 914-6. Let me tell you the Boxster is a blast. Take care, Craig C. Laughlin CAMP 914

Good luck in your new adventures. Whether you go 993, Boxster/986 or 996, I'm sure you'll have a blast and make some great new P-car friends. I sure wish I had the space, time and money for a factory -6 like yours...maybe next year
