Any value in this 914?

My father's friend has a 1973 914 (90K) with the 1.7 liter engine. The car has been sitting in his garage for the past 20 year. I looked at the car today and it’s in terrible shape.

Is there any value in tearing apart this car and selling it for parts? What are the most valuable parts on this car? Should he just junk the car?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Engine. The Bug guys will pay for the engine; the 914 guys usually won't.
Transmission. Side-shifters are in demand, together with the whole shift linkage (all of it, including gear shift lever) and all the engine mounting harware.
Seals. If in good shape.
Sheetmetal, if not rusted.
FI parts.
Electrical parts.

More, depending on who needs it and when. You can make some money if you have a place to store the chassis while you strip it...

that doesn't look so bad to me. My car was quite a bit worse than that when I got it and I payed $900 for it. If it's been sitting inside for so long maybe some of the parts are still good like the bumpers and interior if its any good.

Read the article on what to look for in buying a 914 and compare this car to the items mentioned in it. (Rust, location of rust, sag, options on the car, ect) That should help you determine what value the car is worth. Sold as a compleat car it might bring between $300 to $800, depending on what shape it's in. From the pictures posted it's hard to tell what shape it's in. All I can tell from them is that it is yellow, has stock wheels and some rust in the sail panel area, which was cut out. Does the engine run? What shape is the interior? ect.
