Idle Speed
Hello All. I have read the 914 Technical Specifications on this website, but don't see the answer to my question. I have a '73 1.7L, and would like to know what the RPM's should be reading while the car is at idle. I had the exhaust adjusted a couple years ago so it would pass the emissions test, and don't want to mess around with any of the settings. It seems to idle a little too fast.
Thank you in advance for your help. |

I set my engine to idle at 800rpm, just because this speed causes my car to vibrate the least. As low as 750rpm up to 950rpm idle is what I'm accustomed to seeing listed for stock engines. --john |

John (Or anyone else), do I just turn the knob on top of the "brain box" to slow down the idle on my car? Will this also change any of the emission settings? Which way do I turn the knob? (These might sound like stupid questions to some of you. I appreciate your help.)

You turn the screw on the side of the throttle body. Not sure exactly which side of the throttle body on a 1.7; I would suspect toward the front of the car somewhat.
Screw the screw in to lower the idle, screw it out to raise the idle. Idle spec is found in the Haynes manual--850 +- 50 RPM. But most people I know set it to "just under 1000". --DD |
