Deep 6's front, 7 R's rear--914-6 tire recommendations
I have just purchased a 914-6 which hopefully will be transformed some day into a tribute GT. Meanwhile, I want to fill out the wheel wheels better than happens with the stock wheels/tires. My plan is to use deep 6's in the front and 7 R's in the rear. I'm looking for assistance in choosing tire sizes. Has anyone used this set-up and have any recommendations? Thanks

The front will fit 205s on 6" Fuchs easily. There will be some rubbing aft of the shock tower when the steering is at full lock, so be a bit careful. Otherwise, zero issues.
The rears are more of a problem. They usually can fit 205s on 6" wheels, but when put on 7" wheels the 205s will be wider and there's a pretty decent chance they'll rub. Negative camber can help, if the rub is on the fender lip, but it might not be enough depending. Ive seen 195s on 7" rims, but apparently the tire busters were not happy about mounting those. They should fit a bit better, but there's a good chance it will still be pretty tight. 914s were not built completely by machines. They all are a little different from each other, and every one I've seen has more space in one rear fender or the other. The only way to be sure for your car is to try. The lowest-risk choice would be to fit 195s all the way around, as long as your tire people are OK with that. If you find you have enough space in the rear fenders, then moving up to 205s later can be done. --DD

7R's will need longer studes/spacers/adaptors to fit. the 49mm offset is both a blessing and a curse.
Depending on how you treat the rear fender lips (as well as camber/alignment, ride height, springs etc).. a 205 should fit ok on the 7R.. a 225 can be harder and rub accordingly. I recall years ago fitting my folks 7R wheels from their 74 911S to my 5 bolt 914 and ran into the items I've just discussed with a 225. Tried and true and no issues? 205/50 on a 6x15, et36 *(ie, cookie cutter or Fuch) Same size tire on a 6.5 x 15 minilite is also fine.
