Numeric 915 shifter
Anyone have any thoughts or experience using the Numeric 915 shifter in a 914-6 with a WEVO 915 Side Shift housing? I currently have the Wevo shifter and rods.
TIA

Good luck getting it to work with a side shift, seems to only work on a tail shift...I've been trying to get it to work on 901 side shift, think I'm going to have to sell the shifter and do something else...good luck...

Appreciate your feedback! The Wevo works great thru the gears until you try for fifth, just sloppy. I'm willing to try anything a bit more precise.

I have a 914-6 with a 915 transmission, a Wevo side shift conversion, a Wevo internal shift gate in the 915, a Patrick Motorsport linkage and a Wevo 915 shifter. The combination works quite well but there does seem to be a fair bit of mechanical friction as you move the lever fore and aft. I do wonder if the internal shift gate and the 915 shifter might almost be working against one another. I am curious to try a standard Porsche 915 shifter to see how that feels.
If going into 5th is sloppy have you checked for play in the linkage? |

Thanks Phelix! I'm gonna go thru the linkages again this week. See where there's play or slop.

Can you elaborate on the differences between engaging 3rd and 4th and engaging 5th?
One thought I had was if you needed a slight axial adjustment in the linkage. You might be running out of shift lever travel to the right before the transmission is lined up to go into fifth? |

Running out of shift lever travel to the right before the transmission is lined up to go into fifth is exactly what I was thinking, but in playing with the different adjustment points so far, I have not been able to get travel right. (still need to play more w it) Feels good once adjusted 'on the jack', but once on the track it seems to go back to going into/finding fifth 1 out of 5-6 shifts. When it does go into 5th it seems to have gone in rather easily... or I feel as I let the clutch out pensively, that its actually in third. It could be just worn out shifter, rods and linkages. If that adds up to too much slop and play, then new parts are the answer.

It’s worth checking that you’re getting enough clutch travel - I think the spec is 10mm? In the PPI notes for my car from a previous owner there was a comment that the shop had to try a number of different used pedal shafts before finding one that gave enough travel. Elsewhere here or on 914world I seem to recall that the pedal shaft from a Sportomatic needs to be used?

One thing to note: In a stock 914, trouble getting into 4th and 5th (the right-most plane of the pattern) is sometimes due to interference inside the center tunnel. Specifically, the clutch tube coming adrift from the side wall of the tunnel and getting in the way of the bottom of the shifter.
Since the 915 box does not have 4th in the right-most plane, this could be the cause of your difficulty in getting into 5th. --DD

Good insight! My shifter is raised up. I found a lot of play in the linkages... all tightened up and seems decent now on the stands. I haven't driven the car yet tho.

Just an update. The car ran well in my last vintage races with an almost flawless feeling shifter! What a difference spending some serious time adjusting does... essentially taking everything apart and starting over. I also lessened some of the 'bend' to the rod going from the shifter to the first linkage. Right now I'll stick with the WEVO.
