1973 914 Optional Clock

So I've been working on my car for about a decade, it had set a decade before that with a dead battery. I got the car running great earlier this year and now I'm just going through the little things to be fixed.

The gauge is the white back cap VDO with the 3 5mm nuts. I took off the cover and checked that the fuse was still soldered and it is. I didn't think about checking continuity through the solder till this morning. The back gauge lights works so I know the ground is good. The clock circuit is getting power as well. My question is, is there anything else that I can check, or is it time to just send it to a specialist? While messing with it a little bit, I did hear it start working for a brief second.

I'm pretty sure that the white-backed gauges are aftermarket. IIRC, all of the original ones have metal "cans" that serve as the body of the gauge. I don't know what would be checked inside the gauge, but I would not be surprised if just a clean and re-lubrication (with much lighter-weight grease than you'd generally find in a car!!) would get it running again.

Though that assumes that the clock is mostly mechanical, as I think the original ones are.

See if you can find part numbers on the gauge and search around for instructions for that part number.

It's the original clock. I had to break the little warranty piece over one of the nuts to get into it. That's not a bad idea to maybe use a little paint brush to lubricate the gears

Alight, so I figured it out. I wound the clock spring and would work for a bit then stop before it got to the relay trigger. I just lubricated the spring axle where it rode in its "carriers" or what ever you wanna call it. The spring then didn't have any resistance and kept on going till it hit the relay trigger and boom, worked perfectly. I set the time and we will see how it works in the morning.
