Wheels for my 914-6 with GT flares

I am about to sell the OZ racing wheels and the 996 turbo brakes on my car, and go back to more periode correct set-up.
I have traced the original rear brakes for my car, and they are going to PMBPerformance for spacing and an overhaul. I have bought 911S alu calipers for the front.
I will maybe at som point try to get the car FIA approved, and therefor I would like to get wheels that will be approved also.
I am looking at 15" Fuchs replicas with RSR finish (Anodizes)
The choice is between 7 & 8 or 8 & 9 inches.
Will both set ups be FIA approved?
Tires is more difficult I suppose for the wide wheels ...?
What would you reccomend?

Thanks

Not sure on FIA but the factory did 7x8 with fuchs all around and 8x9 with fuchs on front and minilites on rear if you are attempting to race. In 1970 the 15x9s didn't exist yet. SVRA classifies that you cannot go wider than 8s but the pictures they use for an example include the max moritz car which runs minilites in 15x9 so...

I have both combinations in several finishes that i use with my original 6.

You might want to look at tire availability for 15 and 16 inch sizes. I have 15s on one of my cars right now and will be needing to replace them shortly. I see few choices when I need new 15 inch tires. 16 inch tires are marginally more plentiful.

You'll probably need to check with the FIA scrutineering organization to see what they will accept.

Most vintage orgs will not allow 16" on 914s. Period correct is 15"

Yes, I see that there are more tires to choose from if I go for 16 inches, but I am afraid there will be a FIA "problem"...Of cource I could go for 16" now, and change to 15" if I get that far ...

Agree with that. I like the look as well, but it stinks that there is few tires to choose from.

Yes, I suppose I should... I have downloaded the FIA homologation papers and Appendix K - full yearbook and have read a bit, but ... not easy to navigate in, and find the info you need. I think you have to spend very much time into those documents to get a good overview. That's why I tried the short cut here at Pelican

So the only specific wheels were 14s and 15x5.5 as the widest wheel you can go. It doesnt even talk about the 914-6 at all. Not encouraging. There may be a special addendum for them somewhere....

I think that because it is a group 4 car, there is allowance for deviations. This is probably stated in the appendix K. You see a lot of FIA approved cars with 7 and 8 inches, and also some with 8 and 9 inches, so it is approved with bigger wheels, but to navigate in those papers .... Not for a new beginner ...

Yes i did a search in alpendix k and it does not specifically quantify for the 914-6 gt at all. Only 901/911 variants and 356. That said, research on FIA papered gts show that 7s amd.8s are the norm. In speaking with Steve Limbert who owns a real GT he uses 8s and 9s with the rears as minilites that were used in period on the car. Using either 8s or 9s i still use the exact same tire which is required with the groups i run on the east coast as Hoosier TDs.
