Anyone repair a 1.8 Auxiliary air regulator
Just wondering if anyone has found a way to repair the AAR on a 1.8.
There is a thread and video of the 2.0 and 1.7. And some outfit in California rebuilds them and sells them for a bunch. It cannot be that difficult. What am I missing? There are other cars with similar displacement that use these. It’s just a slightly different Bosch part number Regards, Steve

The 1.8 AAR (unless you're talking very early 1.8, which uses what looks like the 1.7 one!) is a disk valve (disk with a hole in it) that is rotated by a bimetallic strip. If yours is truly broken, you can try opening it all up and cleaning it/checking if anything is disconnected/unsticking it.

Thanks Dave.
I removed it from the car blew it out with low pressure air after flooding it with brake cleaner. I then moved the disc gently back and forth. Next I put it in the freezer and it opened up fully. Then I let it warm up to room temp. Next I heated it up for it to close. And this is the way it looks cooling again to room temp. This seem correct? I have no baseline ![]() Thank you! Steve

If it opens and it closes, it is at least close!
