wierd door alignment

Just checking the rust situation and noticed that the door allignment on both sides are off. Strangely the bottoms are clos and the top has about a 3/8 gap. If the longitudinals are rusted wouldn't the gab in the door be reversed, top tight and bottom large gap. If it is the logitudinal has any one used the clamshell repair instead of cutting out and welding in.

I assume the gap is not due to the top door hinge too far out? In other words there is a gap but the door and body panels are flush. I noticed on mine there's a bit more gap at the top at the hinge side. You could shim the hinges to narrow the gap on the other side (door latch) but you have to watch out that the vertical alignment stays the same.

Has your car been repaired at any time in the past? Has someone replaced the longs or pans or other major structural body panels? Could be a poor job of keeping the chassis straight while welding in new metal.
