I think we all know that a Porsche is a special car with a focus on using engineering to acheive optimum performance within the defined budget. The 914 is a special car even within that context. it was designed to achieve Porsche behavior without the benefit of Porsche assembly or all Porsche components. So, whadda you like about yours? I've got a lot of reasons, most important is that center of mass and the way it makes the car take corners (a 911 is much different IMO). I also like the simplicity of the roof design, the way the front turn signals are like squished 911 headlights, and the fact that you won't see another 914 anywhere unless you look for one? I also like the "hair-lipped step child" stigma. What brought you into this cult? Why can't you get away? What would you trade your 914 for? Would you? How do you explain yourself? I'm really curious.

i like the uniqueness, the joint vw-porsche effort/design. i like to tinker on it and gradually bring it back to "5 yrs after delivery" form. i like wrenching on it and feel i can fix it. i'm intimidated by my 911. (5 year plan... ;>) )i like the price of parts. i like the "underdog" (maybe just plain dog) status (no respect). i like it because 99% of the 996 owners don't know what it is......

Asside from the handling, I love the community. Also the vast array of info on the net about them. I also love people asking what car I have (Im 16) and them having no clue what it is, but recgonising the "Porsh" (ya they all say it 1 sylb, but I always correct them).
What car? Oh my dads 951 would be a good substitute for me, the track car though. Hmmm how would I explain myself, umm an Ignorant teenager? naa

I like the uniqueness about it too. It is a car that I think I can do a lot of work on myself. The "red-headed step-child" aspect of the car intrigues me too. Its very stylish, almost never seen on the road, not everyone has one and fewer even know what it is. It is fun to drive, cheaper to own than some other breeds and after all, it is a PORSCHE, really it is. I'm not kidding. It really is. No. really. A real PORSCHE. It says so right on the car. No fooling.

Lol - Andyrew , I know the feeling. I'm 17. whenever I drive the teener to school I get all kinda's of questions and looks. Most of the rice rocket's think their better. The car acutally scares most who go for a ride in it. "it's like a go-cart or something!" LoL. That's what I really love about it, the uniqueness, I hardley ever see another one on the road. In my mind it's beautiful, and a sunny day up the coast with the top off is the best, no matter who made it!

Passing 'Real Porsches' on the track
Off course I cheat with a 3.2 motor and 10.5" wide tires in the front and 12" slicks in the back. Last edited by Jim Smolka; 07-06-2003 at 10:44 AM.. |

A-YUP... everything everybody said + everyone & their dog ain't got one, I can fix it, when sumpin goes wrong & I haven't done it yet, it's another adventure
I like my color. I like the way I've brought it up from the stored (10 yrs.), dusty, hazelnut infested squirell depository to what I feel is a very nice car. I drove it yesterday to our other place in the woods where the roads are KYA all the way. I was alone (without wife going EEEEeeee!!! around every corner) and luv'n it. 2 hrs up & 2 back. All I can say is... S M O O O O T H bruce ![]() P.s. Oh ya, forgot one... gett'n a thumbs up from other Porsches

I like the funny looks I get at the gas station when people see me putting gas into the tank. Even more fun if I do that and then open up the rear trunk too.

I love that random pieces fall off at random times, especially the sunvisor in the afternoon heading westbound. Driving blind is THE experience. I love having to adjust valves every other month. I love that it's about as water tight as swiss cheese - and I have no rust and all new seals! I love that I can't hear anything for about an hour after a highway blast. I love that I am banned from driving in the state of Iowa for a 102 in a 65. But I especially love the pleasure it brings while driving and knowing that the hard work I've put into it pays off, even if it does cost a small fortune and a LOT of time.

I like the fact that my car is tempermental & will only drive perfect for me. That's right, NOBODY drives my car - it just won't let them!
