Muffler Problems
I need your help, guys. I have a '74 914, 2.0 L. I got a great deal on this Bursch muffler. It is a substantial upgrade from my current "muffler" (a previous owner's homemade masterpiece that didn't actually muffle anything). Anyway, I was told that it was pulled off of a 1.7. From what I've read I thought these were interchangable. The only difference was that the 1.7's exchangers took an upswing at the muffler end.
Well, I got the muffler today. It doesn't seem to fit. I think the heat exchangers are too short. I think they are too close together to work. Granted, my heat exchangers are crap right now, so that could be the problem, too. The holes on the new muffler don't even match my old muffler. I really hate to get rid of this new muffler. It seems really good, but I'm about an inch short and two inches too wide. Did I get a bum steer? Is there anything I can do to use the new muffler? By the way, I am fine as to having enough room above the muffler. It is just the length and width. What can you guys tell me? Thanks a lot. |

You have to replace it as a system.
You must use all 2.0 or all 1.7 components, including the transmission heat exchanger hanger. James
