Every time a bell rings. . . . .

. . . . . another Teener reads my story.

I thought you guys might enjoy this.

This is a story of a very confused man. Let me preface by stating that I am a graduate student in mathematics with a bachelor's in math ed. Needless to say, I enjoy numbers, especially statistics. (Yes, you may all laugh now.) Anyway, this point will come in handy later.

So, I decided a couple of weeks ago that I needed a new muffler for my '74 2.0 L. If you read the "muffler problems" post I wrote earlier, you will recognize the next section. I bought what I thought was a Bursch 2.0 muffler for an extremely good price. The seller called me later and informed me that it came off of his 1.7. We discussed and agreed that it should still probably fit. I now know that to be a mistake. I tried to make it fit any way I could. I hated to have to sell back this great deal. Well, I realized that I was up the proverbial miniscule tributary made of fecal matter, and I was lacking in any sort of propulsion device.

Meanwhile, I had also decided that while I was at it, I would replace my heat exchangers, again, 2.0 heat exchangers. An unnamed man graciously provided me with a usuable set. Keep in mind that I had these shipped before I knew my new muffler wouldn't fit. Otherwise, I never would have gotten them. Well, I received my heat exchangers about two days after the useless muffler came.

I opened the muffler box, and I pulled out the 2.0 heat exchangers. Now is where my mathematical background comes into play. What are the odds that the 2.0 heat exchangers that I received that day were mistakenly referred to as 2.0 heat exchangers. They actually belonged to a 1.7!!!!!! Huzzah! If I were athletic enough, I would have danced a jig. I mean, never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that the muffler that I bought for $100 and the heat exchangers I got for free would just happen to match, even though they weren't supposed to. I think I'd have a better chance of getting a cow to eat a hamburger! I mean, really. Sit down and think about it. It is unfathomable.

Anyway, I just thought I could share the good news. Once I get the exchangers cleaned up, I'm back in business. What a great day to be a Poor-sche Lover!

Well, I have seen more times than not, where someone selling something for a 914 will say it is for a 2.0 to get more money for it. So this doesnt surprise me at all. However, your great deal on heat exchangers and the muffler are only great if you have a 1.7 or 1.8 liter. If you are running a 2 liter, the pipes are smaller and more restricting. But it will get you around till you can get the right ones. That would be looking at the bright side.

Exclamation

Given the favorable price of your purchases, I think this simply demonstrates that people just don't know what they are selling.

Pavlovian response to flat 4 sound

I couldn't let yer title pass... "every time a bell rings..." (!) And then you say you are a statistician. What are you into, some kind of probalistic psychology? (Come to think of it, I guess "normal behavior" and "normal distribution" are pretty much the same topic). So I had to ask, whats the answer here? What happens to a pelicanhead every time the bell rings?
