Frozen nut

Attempting to take the exhaust header off I rounded over one of the nuts. I tried a 13mm socket which slipped, so next was a 12 mm which did not fit on it. Tried a 1/2 in socket on the next nut and it came off as did the rest. Only one stuck was the one I tried first, nicely rounded over by now. Bad place to ground the nut off since I can't get to it

I had a pretty good idea.
I applied a bead of thick CA (super glue) to the inside of the 1/2 in socket and sprayed CA accelerator on the not. Stuck the socket on the nut, let the glue harden and easily undid the nut.

Neal,

I've never thought of that method but it sounds like a great Idea. I've rounded a few nuts myself.

JB Weld might work too. Of course, your socket will never be the same.

I did not clean the oil/grease from the socket before I applied the glue. The hardened glue popped right out.
If you use JB Weld or other epoxy, heat will soften the glue (I think).

Now that I think of it, maybe ask the owner of the lamppost. Good possibility he had a frozen nut.

Yeah, maybe. But frozen or not, he probably wouldn't want it glued into a socket and twisted off!
