Question Head Work - Who's the Best?

The #3 intake valve seat came loose in my stock 74 2.0. The seat got wedged between the head and the valve (and consequently was banging into the top of the piston). I've got 2 questions:

1) I need to have the heads repaired and re-worked as necessary and want to get them done right. Who would you recommend as trustworthy and darned good at what they do for type IV head work?

2) Where the piston hit against the cock-eyed valve seat, there is a small moon-shaped cut in the top of the piston. Not too deep (maybe 1/16 inch?). These Mahle pistons were installed new about 30K miles ago. Do I need to replace the pistons?

Thanks for any and all replies!

you want to at least replace the 1 piston, I don't think you need to replace all of them though.... Rimco, or headflowmasters I have heard good things about both as far as headwork goes...

I don't know offhand of anyone more local to you.

If the crater has sharp edges, hit them with a file or something else to break the edges. If the crater is shallow and not that close to the edge of the piston, it should not wind up breaking through to the ring lands or anything like that. Go ahead and use it. "It'll probably fill in with carbon anyway," as one machinist said to me.

RIMCO is good, very good, for stock headwork. No mods. I took a head to RIMCO as far back as 1977. Fixed it then, can fix it now.

Mike,

there are a couple of local resources to you.
My favorite is in grand junction.. AJRS, but he is sometimes booked up in advance so you would have to contact him first regarding availablility.

You could call On-the-Edge-Performance, right there in Colorado Springs and get a good referral from them for a local place too...
There a quite a few good places in denver too which I would be very comfortable with.

Hey are you hooked up with the colorado Yahoo 914 group?
email me direct at your convience.

Gotcha....the original limerick was NOT obscene....
http://www.yesterdaysisland.com/main_pages/limerick.html

You gotta know your history. The original line above was printed in 1924 by a newspaper intended for those to provide new lines......the originals were clean. It wasn't until later that the dirty lines popped up.

Do your own Google search for the "Risky" ones.

Well, since this is going downhill fast, I think I'll take the earlier suggestions and just go with Rimco (although the more creative replies were much more entertaining). Thanks for all the help.
