is bright trim plastic coated
Is the "chrome" (polished aluminum) trim on the 914 plastic coated? I want to polish up some of mine but it behaves like it is. If so, has anyone stripped it, polished it, and recoated it? What did you use?

I could be mistaken, but it's probably adonized (acts like a plastic coating). You can sand it off, or do the Easy Off oven cleaner trick (just like you can do on wheels). Again, I'm not positive...so wait for someone else to validate that it is adonized. Good luck.

I know from experience that if you have the black trim, you can simply strip the paint off and polish it up to a really nice chrome finish.

No coating on the brightwork- try Wenol metal polish if ya can find it. Then cover with two coats of paste wax.
