145mph on the 57 freeway out by Katella. 10:00am on the way to Dunkel Bros. 2003.
The car also turned a 1:21.9 at SOW this past weekend. Street setup with worn out Victoracers. |
Scary Fast
My 3.2 is scary fast. It scares me. The more I drive it the less I am frightened but there is no doubt in my mind that my car is very very fast. Here's what happened on Friday:
On Friday, some rich kids in an M3 challenge me on el camino. They come up in my side mirror like banchees and I don't even down shift, I just punch it and the M3 is wailing and making its move in the lane to the left of me, but then my Porsche finds 3500 rpm and then 4000 rpm and my exhaust sounds like a pack of lions killing prey, and by 4500 rpm, bye bye M3. It really wasn't that close. I pretty much smoked the M3. I've had similar experiences with fairly new Corvette on the freeway. I've driven my friend's WRX flat out and, in my Porsche I think I could smoke it too. As a side note: I have a stock 914-6 tranny. It's geared ridiculously low. I have racing headers and modified muffler. No cat. If your 3.0 isn't scary fast then maybe you're not easily frightened or maybe there's a significant hp difference between our engines as set up. I thought the The Ring was scary too. Douglas http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1061422292.jpg |
With my Flux Capacitor and Warp Coil - I hit lightspeed and saw red

Whats the hp rating on a stock 2.2T engine? I just bought one and plan on doing a 4-6 conversion. I plan on turbocharging it and would like to have an idea of the gains once I finish the project and dyno it.

LOL 911SCs are famous for having the plastic bushings on the throttle bell crank and linkage wear out.
My car ran pretty good when I got it but it ran much much better after I got full throttle. Funny thing was, I was faster on the AX course before I fixed it  |
The unanswered question
The question that keeps coming up that nobody seems to want to answer is: How should a 914-6 3.0 stack up against other modern cars?
The 914-6 weights below are estimates. It would be easy to make these lighter. I think a 2,000lb street 914-6 is doable. That would give you w/p of 9.0 with a 220hp 3.0, or 11.1 for a stock 3.0. Model Power Weight W/P 914-6 3.0 180hp 180 2200 12.22 914-6 3.0 220hp 220 2200 10.00 914-6 early 3.6 272 2300 8.46 914-6 late 3.6 285 2300 8.07 Mazda RX-8 250 2970 11.88 Nissan Altima 240 3001 12.50 Nissan 350ZX 280 3322 11.86 Mitsu Eclipse GT 200 3208 16.04 Ford Mustang GT 260 3317 12.76 Chevy Vette 350 3246 9.27 Chevy Vette Z06 405 3118 7.70 Sorry about the formatting mess. It looks nice and easy to read when I edit it, but when I post it scrunches up and loses all the formatting. |

In a street car, folks think they want a lot of HP, but what they need is torque. "I gotta spin my 3.0L over 4000 to get it to go"..no *****. A Z06 has 300ft/lbs or so at idle...only a slight exageration:D So, whadda you wanna do? If you want to be king of the street, throw in a 383 chebbie. If you wanna run with a Z06 at AX, a gud (not great) 2.7L will do the trick. iam's car seems to be built for more than just cruzin' the street looking for ricers to jump on. BTW, From a standing start, with that short 1st gear, there aren't many cars that can beat me across an intersection.....but, you have to have the rpms to pull it. 7300 = about 35 mph with the tiars I have. I figure my P/W at bout 1:10. Maybe I'd have been better off with just a "humph" |
No one here knows how much horsepower a stock 2.2T 911 engine produces? Anyone?

I am to old to be out looking for the fast and furious, but if an acquaintance from the country club in his boxster wants to box I would like to go the full 10 rounds and get the decision. I have had a few 350z's riding all over my bumper wanting to play, and have had a few boxster owners looking down there nose at me. My cars not ready yet to take on anyone if I choose to, but know it is not unobtainable. When my car gets up into the 4000 zone it pulls, especially with the short gears, but down low with a flat acceleration from 2000 up to 4, takes way to long. the 964 or 20/21 cams with a little higher compression sounds like it would solve that. A little more torque
down low would be great without having rev it up and drop the clutch hard on the 901 tranny. The race track is the place to go racing, but with a little caution and if the time is right, I will step on it. ( I have only had 2 speeding tickets since 1971 one was in a lincoln town car going 75 the other in my stock 914 2.0 they got me for being 10 over when the speed limit was 55 ) The bottom line is be respectful of others on the road and be safe, and always wear your seatbelt. |
145mph ... that's about where I draw the limit on public roads. :D
She was at 6500 in 5th and still pulling ... I bet I could have seen 150. But with no aero things get scary above 110 ... then when you start to lift the back end begins floating around and the car starts getting all loosy goosy. If I don't like my women loosy goosy, I surely don't want my teener loosy goosy ... I've decided to keep it out of the trips for the time being. |
slow...but very cool. I have noticed something interesting. While putting through the neiborhood, certain kids stop and pan with the car soaking up the lines...the sound with a look that says, wait, that car is different. Others continue to play oblivious to my passing...Guess who the future car guys are!

Oh, I had that, don't do that... over 400 at the tires, not good. Needs a $15k gearbox, but you can keep picking new gears to start in as you wear them out.... 1st, 2nd, 3rd... 4th works pretty good, 5th better on a grade.. ;) A stock 901... basically undrivable... heh M |
Hmmmmmmm..............I run 400 hp with a 350 V8 and a stock 901 transaxle. The setup has worked very well for the past 12 months. Engine was custom built to have torque come in at midrange vs. off idle.
I will change gear ratios in future to lower rpm at highway speed but the stock setup is not that bad and does require the shifting setup to be well tuned to keep up. 2900 rpm at 72 mph is tolerable. Had it to 140 mph but would prefer a gear change in 5th to lower the rpm. John Quote:

Why not get a stopwatch and test this 3L 914? Then you would know what your zero to 60 is and be able to compare it to other cars.
|
Imagine having 5 gears, each useable from 2000 to redline. The 901 is way too low, and close together for me.
I think a V8 conversion is the only one that needs a 915 (cost effective) because of the gearing, and the idea that you are going to stay out of 5th most of the time, so you don't have to worry about the terrible-awkward-unruly-you_think_your_901_shifts_like_crap?-shift pattern that comes with the great gearing choices, with any /6 conversion I would ever consider, it would be a 901 with a 904 mainshaft, oh yeah.. .... now, where is that magazine I have with the BB 427 roller motor crammed in that 914? The valve covers look like pillows. :) M |
