OT: what was this guy thinking?

Maybe he could turn his talents next to a 914 Limo.

Porsche Crest

The vehicle in Damnation Alley looked similar, but had these bizarre triple wheels.

Yeah, that particular vehicle (it is called the Dobbertin Surface Orbiter) was featured in Car and Driver several years back. The guy designed the thing to circumnavigate the globe and even managed the pilot it (with his wife) down into South America, before financial and political problems began to block his path. (can you imagine crossing the southern Atlantic Ocean, trying to get to Africa in that thing?) They even did an update I think a year ago. Turns out that, surprise, his dream of circling the globe in a converted milk tank was straining his marriage. Who'da thunkit?

Check it out. It's whacky, but certainly no stranger than putting a Corvair engine in a 914.
