I have a question about paint
I am about to start body work on my car and want to know the best paint and primer to use. And Does anyone know the best place to purchase Wurth paint at.
Thanks, JRW

Not sure what you mean by best - paint technology or brand? I use only epoxy and urethane primers, and urethane basecoat/clearcoat systems. These are current state-of-the-art paint materials. Urethanes release isocyanates which are dangerous to breathe, so you must use a supplied air breathing system. For primers I've been using BASF R-M products and for base/clear only DuPont. I'd see what brands your local autopaint supply store carries. I've bought Wurth rocker guard from Eastwood, I think PP carries some of their products. I haven't seen any Wurth paints though.

I think epoxy is great, but I like polyester for build up and block sand down. You can do this a couple times a day with poly. Check and see what it will and will not stick to. In other work that I do laminating, epoxy will stick over poly, but not the other way around.
I use a sealer just before paint. I like DuPont products myself. |

Yes, me too, I use epoxy as a self-etch primer over bare metal, than a couple coats of 2k polyester primer-surfacer over that for block sanding.

Do a searchengine on Wurth if you don't find what you want on PP. There are several places that sell the paint. An automotive store that carries Wurth can give you a reps number in your area if they don't do special orders.

I like Dupont products. Start off with their 2 part self etching primer (516 or 615?) as it makes a waterproof seal (unlike regular grey or red primer), add 2-3 layers of primer surfacer and sand smooth. If bare metal shows, respray with self etch followed by primer surfacer and resand . Then I spray basecoat/clearcoat over the smooth surface. Don't mix brands as interesting chemistry can occur.
As per Wurth, my local (Ohio) stores carry some of their products. Some body schutze was shot on the longitudinals on my car but no coleor coat there. Ken |

Thanx for all the pointers. I have helped other people paint cars before but never one of my own. So I thought I better get some info from some porsche guys, like what brand of paint they use.

Sean
That Wurth SKS Stone Guard is nice stuff for the panels. I just sprayed my new fiberglass ones with it yesterday. Here's a link http://www.carcareonline.com/detail.asp?product_id=11336 |
