so when did you lose your virginity
to a 914 any way... lets find out when we were all hooked to a tight, lean thing with a strange motion needed to get her going in the right direction ie ... when you heard down and over not up and over...
for me it was in 92 ( i was in the navy )i got a ride from one of the guys on my boat in his less than perfect 914 ( and do you realy think an enlisted guy could afford a perfect 914 ) , and that first right hand turn had me hooked then it took 9 years to get that feeling again

For me, it was 1977 in High school. I still remember the ads for them but then I saw my first Chalon and said that is what I want. I got the first 914 in 1982 after selling my full size Dodge custom van. I was on a car lot and saw it sitting on the side line. A 9 year old bright red 914. I bought it then for $2299.00 plus tax and license. It was a 1.7 with FI and sounded like a lawn mower. The exhaust needed to be replaced and had a few leaks. I loved that car. I built a new motor for it 2270 and put 45 Dellortos on it. Man was that car fast. I sold it after i got married for $3200 to some guy from Boston. I did not buy another one for almost 18 years. Now I have 2 of them. My little yellow stocker S optioned car and last year around October, I bought a not quite completed Chalon. I will keep these cars till I die.

For me it was in 1973, at my sisters wedding. The groom asked me to drive his 914 home after the ceremony and I was hooked. I've had two '73's and one '75 and a '63 356 in between. My current ride is a Cal 1.7l and its great; it's not fast enough to get me a ticket off the line, but it rolls and rolls and rolls on.....

In '73, I was nine, and my schoolmate's dad owned the local dealership... we would sit in them and scream like a wound out motor..
I should have snatched all the fuse box covers.. I got my first (75) in 82, and my last car I ordered one year ago, next Monday, @ 12:18PM EST. M

I scored her in 1978 after lusting after her ever since she came out in 1970. It was a real close call though...there was that slut 240z down the street that was always flashing me....

Circa 1988 a kid on my pee-wee football team's dad had a 914/6. I thought it looks to odd it was cool. Seeing Jeff Zwart's car in R&T got the wheels spinning again a few years later and about 3 years ago I finally got mine. I've had them on the brain REALLY bad for the past 10 years so I just had to get one

In 1988 my then 16 yr. old son decided I should buy him this
1973 Signal Orange .2.0 . I thought what the hell, he want,s a sports car with a small engine. I guess that was better the a Big block ,Ford ,Chevy.,or Mo Par. Well we took it for a test drive . I fell in love. My son decided it wasn,t fast enought, so we got a Ford Exp. I never recovered from that, and in 2000 I found a perfect black 73 ,1.7. And we ( my 914 and I ) have been involved in this Affair ever since. From which there is no known cure. Dave ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

In 96 I was ststioned up in San Francisco at the Coast Guard Air Station. I needed a car as I had just rid myself of my 82 escort (first car) and all I had was my Motorcycle and a nice wet winter to deal with. I found this 71 1.7 in the paper down in Freemont/Haward area for $1.6k and thought, "Wow a Porsche for that little!" I went to look at the neglected beast and after a drive around the block I was hooked by its sound and excentricities.
Oddly enough, the guy offered me a corvair engine with it and I declined...funny how you end up back where you started. I sold it for a ridiculously low price when I got out of the Guard. I wanted one for two years after that and finaly found one in Tracy CA for $2.7k. I told the owner that I was in the market for around $2k-$1.8k and he said lets deal. It is still mine and if I can help it I will be keeping it till the grave.

My first car was a Orange '71 that I purchased in 1973 when I was 15 years old. It was 3 months before my 16th. birthday and my driver's license. That was a long 3 months! I got to drive it with my dad since I had a learner's permit. It's kinda sad that I remembered by High School classmates as the guy with cool Porsche.

My uncle had a brand new '74 2L (still kicking myself for not buying it when he sold it). I must have been 8 or 10 years old when I got my first ride in it. I remember him taking a freeway onramp cloverleaf at 50+ mph. I was hooked.

Rockin! When I bought my first, I rode to Atlanta on a bus with a friend, and it took 5 hours to get back home, 130 miles away, because we kept looping offramps. ![]() M

1972. I just walked into the dealership and bought one. I don't think I'd ever driven one. Had some Corvettes and VW's before.

so when did you lose your virginity?
In my Sunflower Yellow 1973 1.7, no joke.
The car was originally my Grandfather's that he bought brand new from Vasek Polak. My dad drove it all through high school, and I got it when I turned 16. Of course, it needed quite a bit of work by the time I got it, lol. Last edited by Jared at Pelican Parts; 09-15-2003 at 09:25 AM.. |

1978...... I bought the 1972 Willow Green 914 in Tampa. I still own today. My Dad said a friend of his was selling a car and he knew I was looking for a car for my wife. He didn't know what it was but the guy wanted $1800. I went to the guys house bought it after a 3 minute test drive.
I recently found some documentation that my car was orignally purchased from Stoddard Imports in Willoughby, Ohio. I even have the dealer serial number and maintenance records. I am still with my first 914 but not my first wife.....

Got my first 914 (Zambezi green) in about '87. A friend traded me the car in exchange for an IBM PC. What a deal, the PC not worth anything after about two years. Kept it until '89, had too many cars and wife/kids (more the wife) wanted a piano. Reluctantly sold the Porsche to buy a piano (see a common theme here?). A prospective buyer came over to look at mine driving a yellow V8. I said to myself - one of these days I want one of those. So last year bought a beat-up '74 Alaska Blue metallic. Rebuilt it from ground up and painted it Chrome yellow, and now getting ready for the final part of the conversion phase. Can't figure out what I like about these cars, when they first came out I was not particularly fond of them.
