Quick Q
How bright is the alternator and oil pressure light when the key is turned to on? (not started)
Cheers Kerry

Usually pretty bright - just like any other car.
If your light is dim, it could be the same problem that I am having with my high beam indicator (which is really dim). I beleive this is caused by dirt or something blocking the light path becuse the acthal bulb burns bright. |

Pulled the bulb socket out and the bulb is VERY dim with the key in the on position.
My charging system has been not right latley. I was hopping the bulb was causing the problems. Thanks Kerry

my oil pressure light is bright with the key on and the engine not running. once it starts, the light is sometimes dim and sometimes goes out completely. hopefully, someone will tell me the pressure switch is bad or the ground is dirty. i figured that since it is not as bright when running, the pressure is up/ok. sure hope i figured right. need to install that VDO pressure gauge.

My high beam indicator didn't work, yet the bulb lit up. As I was working on the tach anyway I found the blue plastic film they used to color the light had turned completely black and blocked the light. The green turn signal was still OK. I replaced it with blue plastic I cut from a file folder tab now it's good as new. Maybe the same thing happens to the other lights.

It depends of if your stepping on the accelerator pedal and how much. It flickers at idle.
Oh wait, not started right? Ummmm, looks medium-well.

Clean up the connections on the bulb, on the socket (if any), and on the wires. Clean the grounds as well. Clean up fuse #8 or #9, or just replace it because they're cheap. Clean the "fingers" that hold the fuse as well.
Contact cleaner (like Radio Shack TV Tuner Cleaner or Wurth Contact OL) is your friend here. If it were just the alternator light that were dim, I'd suggest replacing it. But if both are dim, then I'd say you have bad connections somewhere. Check the ground path for the bulbs; I think it may be through the body of the gauge. --DD

Thanks guys..
Dave, the low fuel and gauge lights work fine. I just have trouble with the Alt and oil lights. I was thinking the oil gauge problem is coming from the seatbelt relay. I messed around with the relays and removed all relays from under the seat. Connected the yellow wires and was done. I may have borke the green/red wire along the way?? The alt light is dim all of the time. It doesn't get brighter or dimmer. With the key in the on position it is just as dim as when it is running. I'll pick-up some cleaner and clean the contacts. I haven't checked the voltage at the dash lights. Should the red/white wire have a full12v. Cheers Kerry ![]()
