shift knob question

I have a non-914 Porsche shift knob that came with the car... It has the Porsche crest on it instead of the shift pattern..

nevertheless, it doesn't have a place for a mounting screw - it has a bunch of grooves running up and down the inside.

My question is, can I use the crush sleeve that PP sells to mount it permanently? The reason I'm asking is that the crush sleeve 'ribs' look bigger than the grooves inside the shift knob.

TIA.
robster.

Maybe....depends if there is enough room for the crush washer. You may have to ream out the shift knob. Probaly easire to add a little dab of silicon to keep it from spinning or coming off in your hand on hard shifts. .

Whoaaaaa, silicon to keep it from spinning??????????? Do you mean epoxy? I admit I am super tired right now (and have had a couple beers) but silicon is going to make things worse. I used the same method as for re-gripping golf clubs and it worked great.....double sided adhesive tape on the stick, rub lighter fluid on the tape and then jamb the knob on quickly and let dry. Plenty tight then.

Did I miss something?

potter.. that's an interesting solution...how'd you come up with the combination of double-sided tape and lighter fluid?

The double sided tape trick also works great on regripping dirt bike handlebars. Real men usually substitute gas (but not premix) for the fru fru lighter fluid.

I have one of those "Porsche" crest knobs, and tried to drill out the aluminum insert/sleeve so I could use the original crush sleeve - no go, the shift ro is bigger than the insert. Bah, I like the original knob way better anyway.
HEY JERRY I just put a set of Renthal softs on, and used the ol' laquer clear spray paint. It eats up the rubber so fast that you have to put the grip on in a hurry or it'll disintegrate in your hand. But it practically melts onto the handlebar ! I safety wire 'em too.
Cheers
Jeff
