20-foot Picasso

I just painted my 20-foot car. Now its a 3 foot car (depending on your vision prescription). Engine building, brakes, and suspension.... piece o cake. Painting.... should be called preping and cleaning. This project suffered major feature creep. I was just going to mask it and spray it, ya know, just make it shine a little. The paint was only $100. Then I pulled the trunk seal out. Who wants to go through the hassle of masking all that rubber? Under the trunk seal I found rust in the rail, not a lot but I ground it off and treated it with POR-15. Then I went to tape the door seals off. The seals already had red over-spray from their previous life in the donor car I took them from so I pulled those too…Damn! More rust. Not a lot, so I scraped, brushed and more POR-15. I see a pattern developing here so I just pulled it all apart. Removed all the seals, the interior, lights, signals, even the windshield. So here it is, 4 weeks and $300 later. I photographed every step of the way . If ya’ll are interested, I’ll re-size the pics and post some

Nice job Sean! I am interested in seeing your pics of the process. What equipment and paint type did you use?

grey POR 15 on the windshield frame's surface rust. Etching primer near all teh edges. I like clean sharp edge lines. cowl line was fun to shape. wiper shaft recess holds water. What was DR P thinking when they designed this into the car? I also droped the ventilation fan box as not to paint the leaf screen white. I like the look of teh black screen under the white painted ventilation intake grill

don't be scared, take that rocker panel off and look. WOW, am I lucky! Battery tray center was 1/2 gone but frome under tray was OK. I POR 15'd it all. POR-15 says it is impervious to battery acid. I am currently conducting a test sample cause I dont believe it yet.

dont forget to clean out all those little drain holes! I poked them then blew them out with 125 psi. I also did this 8 years ago when I bought the car

Sean, did you paint that outdoors? If so, before the fires I presume. Looks great!
