Here's a few photos of my $25 raffle 914
Here's a few photos of my $25 raffle 914. It was described as "excellent condition". It looks good on the surface, but colse inspection reveals a lot of rust.
I'm going to pick it apart, keep the wheels and a few other items and sell the rest on E-Bay. Hey, I'm happy to have it. I got me a set of fuchs, the carpet looks like brand new peralon, and the heat exchangers & muffler are nearly new. When I sell the rest, I think I will recover all of my costs & then some................................Vern |

You definitely came out WAY ahead. I got more than that invested in my electric windshield washer conversion!

I dont think it is all that bad, I could probably fix it. I have seen worse.

Nope! My Grey Beauty is getting all my attention from now on. Not a spec of rust & a new set of Fuchs (thanks to my red baby).
Now, I just got to get a little horse power. |

Looking at the picture, you ought to be able to clear $3,500 selling it as it is on eBay!

You'll still be ahead when you factor in the engine and trans on top of the wheels, but isn't it more like an $800 car including the freight?
Just to throw the question out there, how much are a set of Fuchs wheels worth in good (not concours) condition? How much does a non-op parts car with OEM alloy wheels sell for in CA? I ask because I am trying to come up with an offer for a set of five Fuchs alloys here off a junker.

Sets of five Fuchs wheels go for up to $500 at swap meets. Often for less, though. The last swap meet here in the SF Bay Area, I saw a set of five go for $200 or $250. They had some problems, but not huge ones!!
Center caps and lug bolts are usually extra. --DD

Most Fuchs that I have seen on E-Bay sell for $400 to $600 depending on the condition. I've seen really nice ones go for $800.
My total cost on the red car (including shipping) is $975. I'm keeping the Fuchs, the brand new peralon carpet, heat exchangers & bursche exhaust. To me, that's breaking even. After that, I will pick the car apart & sell on E-Bay. The car looks ok in the photos, but in real life - there is rust everywhere you look. There isn't a battery tray, the right rear wheel is slanted due to rust, under the driver seat is solid rust, door jams have rust. This car has seen it's days. |

Hey, the Bursch is in good shape! So much for all of those Bursch-a-phobes!
Any one know how loud the Bursch cherry bomb is versus the Bursch quiet muffler? By the way, good deal. You should do well with the parts sale. Mike |

The Bursch even has the sticker on it. Which shows that the car has been driven less than 10 miles, as it only takes that long for the muffler to heat up enough for the sticker to fall off/burn off. Followed quickly, in most cases, by the paint.

This car has the glass pack style bursch. Personally, it's too loud for my taste but I will use it until I get the quiet type. It sounds just like a VW with a glass pack header setup.
My gray car has stock exhaust but the exchangers are old & noisy so this will be an improvement. |

If the engine runs well on the 2.0, why don't you swap the engine and trans for more hp?
My dad did that with a totalled 2.0 and a ssssssssssllllllllllllllllllloooooooooooooowwwwwww wwwww 1.7. It worked well afterwards. Just an idea Adam

I don't trust this "2.0" at this time. To start, it has a EA case which is a 1.7. It has 4 bolt heads which means there probably VW bus heads. It also has a Holly 2 barrel carb set up. My existing stock 1.8 runs perfect. I'm going to build me a real 2.0 witn a GA case & 3 bolt heads. At least this way, I will know what's in my car.
Of course, I reserve the right to change my mind. I haven't even driven this car yet as it arrived out of gas & I have had to work late this week. |

Good decission on the "2.0" ... considering the crapy carb, and the heads... this thing might have less power than your 1.8l.
