Rebuilding VW Heads.
I realize that this article is about rebuilding Type I heads but the basics should be the same for the Type IV.

Well, SIR closed their doors back in the 80's. I recently talked to the owner of that company and he is semi retired now but still deals with VW engines. You see him on Ebay from time to time selling complete engines. His office is up in Placentia, CA. He is in a wheel chair now and has the work all performed by different shops that he says are reliable. Rimco is about the only place that does volume rebuilding. They are located a block down from where SIR used to be.

Heh... Nothing more dangerous than a man with a scanner and several boxes of old car magazines....

What is more dangerous than a man with a scanner is a woman with an air powered grinder doing port work.

Not the same....Not even romotely!
I have done a set of TI heads that went on a 220BHP engine in 1 day.......a normal set of TIV heads take 2 days.

Yup! That is them. They did my 2.2 back in the early 80's. Flywheel lightened to 12 pounds. That motor hauled bottom. I miss that engine. Ran great though. They have a nice engine on Ebay right now they want just over 2k for it.
