Brake light switch
bought a new brake light switch from PP. The new switch arm seems to jump behind the washer on the brake pedel, causing a constant on condition. I tossed the old switch. Are the arms bendable or is there an adjustment for position. The screw holes are not elongated. Any thoughts? TIA

You can bend the arm as long as it is held so no load goes on the switch internals. I used two pair of very long needle nose pliers and bent it while in place. Good luck.

The arm for the switch goes on the opposite side of the way it looks like it should. Or at least, the way that I thought it should the first time!
The switch is spring-loaded so the "brake lights on" position. You need to put the arm in front of (I think it was) the washer on the brake pushrod. When the pedal is not pressed, the pushrod will push against the spring and will open the connection, turning the brake lights off. You can verify which way it works by removing it from the pedal cluster and leaving it plugged in, or by unplugging the electrical connections and using an ohmmeter to see when the switch inside it opens and closes. --DD

as dave said, the arm rests on the drivers side of the large washer. there is an adjustment also. page 129, detail 30; figs.9.24 and 9.25 of your haynes manual.
