GC engine case ?

I have a GC xxxxxx engine case that I might use on my 2.0 rebuild. But after examining it, it doesn't have the lateral oil pressure relief piston above the #1 lifters.
What exactly does that piston do ? Will it be ok without it ?

It may be a GE case..... the only engines that did not have the relief were Hydraulic from the factory

Actually, a lot of the 73+ 914 engines did not have that relief. Cary, your GC is from a 75-76 2.0 914 or a 76 912E.

Never seen one yet that did not have the provision for it...... Even my 912E engine has it, and that case is exacting a GC for a 914.

Oh well, guess I'm not well informed on these engines!

No, no, Jake. That's not what he said. It just isn't machined and the pressure relief valve installed. I have a GC case that I'm saving. It's just as Dave said. The boss is there, but no valve prep.

Yep, boss is cast into the case. But not drilled and tapped.
