He is still at it...but has had some delays. I can't remember what exactly he said, but I am sure he will post soon. His name is Rick...and I just read an e-mail he sent to me. He said that he should be driving it by late spring.

I have talked to one Porsche shop owner who told me about doing a 928 engine into a 914 swap. He told me that (due to the length of the engine) they streached the rear of the car 2" (trailing arms and body) in order to obtain cleareance (insted of cutting onto the front bulkhead). He did mention that the extra lenght really seemed to help in directional stability of the vehicle.
I don't know if they decided to do it that way or if that might be required to get the swap done properly. Either way, that sure would make it and expensive conversion (compared to the chevy/buick stuff available) just to keep the Porsche name.

it's not just the name, it's the people!

seriously though, with a chevy V8, *some* PCA areas won't allow you to run in anything except x-class. the 928 engine would probably push the car into some insane class anyways though, but at least you're competitive. I guess it really depends on what you want the car to be used for.

Hi Everyone, I didn't intend to leave you all hanging on the edge of your seats. I've had a very full life lately. As all you are aware, when things get busy, hobbies take the back seat. I don't want to get into a debate on what conversion is the best. I'll just say that I've toiled with this decision for a long time, and for me, this was the best way to get really big hp on a BUDGET and keep it all porsche. Current status: The flywheel is done, the adaptor is fit to the engine and transaxle, the rear mount is done, the front mount is 50% done. A few of the key pointers for doing this conversion are; This conversion is not for the purist! You will need to cut the fire wall out! I cut inboard from the seat belts. The firewall will be in the stock position on the bottom, and will be straight across from the center hump. I'm 5'8" with a 32" inseam. I moved the seat back so I could just depress the clutch to the floor with my toe. I still had about 2" of room between the seat back and my mock up firewall. The reward for doing it this way is a stock wheel base. I made up a custom transaxle mount that moves everything back 2". They do this for the chevy conversion, so it's no big deal. I used the 928 inner flywheel with a 914 outer flywheel section attached. And to make the whole thing work, I cut about 1 3/8" off the transaxle bellhousing. I have a local friend that put a web page together for me. http://www.d.umn.edu/~jrichar4/alien.htm
And Jim (TFI) is working on one as well, but as I said I've had a very full life and haven't kept up with him very well. (sorry Jim) So for now check out the web page and book mark it for later. I still plan on a late spring. Thanks for thinking about me. and thanks for the support.
