Broke the head off the engine mount bar bolt. Now what?
I'm dropping the engine/trans using the Pelican article. While attempting to remove the engine mount bar bolts the damn head broke clean off. Any suggestions??? There are two smaller bolts on each side of the bar mount bolt- do these secure the mount to the car? Or must I drill. I don't want to drill.

If you broke the head off of item #21, you should be able to use a steel drift or long screwdriver and just hammer the bolt up:
![]() Remember to support the engine/mount while doing this, or you'll be startled with the sudden shift! Afterwards, replace BOTH nuts & bolts with ones of suitable length and strength, just to be on the safe side. ![]()

Thanks, after looking at your diagram you are right. But I can't seem to get the bolt to budge. I am pounding the hell out of it with a mallot and it just won't move. Any other ideas how I could push this bolt up through?

Is this the passenger side? The problem could have been caused by a little battery acid bath over the years.
Sounds like the bolt shaft is rusted into the engine bar. Lots of surface area here for a nice rust bond. Soak it with PB-Blaster penetrating oil. Try heat with a propane torch on the bar. Maybe you can break the bond. Can you reach the upper nut, part #22? If you can remove it the bolt should slip through the channel shaped bracket which is held by the two smaller bolts, allowing you to lower the engine with bar and bolt in place. Good luck. Mike |

Yes, it is on the passenger side. It's all soaked w/ penetrating oil. I was trying to remove the #22 bolt but was having difficulty getting a wrench or socket on it but I'll try again. I also thought about putting a propane torch to it but the fuel filter, lines, and pump are in close proximity. Maybe as a last resort. Thanks

I was able to get to part #22 and that did the trick. Thanks to all who posted.
